What is caption limit?
The maximum number of characters a platform allows in a post's caption - it varies enormously, from 280 on X to over 60,000 on Facebook.
Caption limits are a per-platform constant that has nothing to do with video or image specs, which is why cross-posting the same caption everywhere often means truncation on the stricter platforms (X at 280 characters, Pinterest descriptions at 800) and unused headroom on the generous ones.
A few platforms also have a separate, shorter title field in addition to the caption/description - YouTube Shorts and Pinterest both do - which is easy to overlook when adapting a caption written for a platform that only has one text field.
