What is frame rate (fps)?
How many individual images ("frames") a video shows per second, measured in FPS. 24, 30 and 60 are the common values.
24 FPS is the traditional cinematic rate and reads as slightly more "filmic." 30 FPS is the standard for most social video and screen recordings. 60 FPS can look smoother for motion and gameplay and may need more bitrate to preserve detail. It does not automatically double file size: at the same total bitrate and duration, file sizes are similar.
Mismatched frame rates cause stutter when footage from different sources is combined without conversion - a 24 FPS clip cut into a 30 FPS timeline either judders or needs frame interpolation to smooth out.
