GLOSSARY

What is resolution?

The pixel dimensions of a video or image - width × height - which determines how much detail it can show.

Resolution and aspect ratio are different things measured together: 1080×1920 is both a resolution (roughly 2 million pixels) and a 9:16 ratio. Two files can share a ratio while one looks noticeably sharper because it has more pixels.

Higher resolution means a larger file at the same visual quality, so platforms publish a maximum they'll accept or usefully display - uploading beyond it wastes bandwidth without adding visible sharpness once the platform re-encodes the file down.

Koldflux picks the right codec, container and bitrate for every platform automatically - this glossary exists because our own team had to get it right first.
