✳ FPS PROBLEMS
Video plays choppy - causes and fixes
Choppy playback usually comes from a source FPS that the destination does not support, dropped frames after heavy compression, or a destination that re-encodes to a lower FPS. Match the source FPS to the destination's accepted range; avoid fractional rates when the destination lists integer rates.
Check these first
- Inspect the source FPS with a media inspector.
- Compare the destination's accepted FPS range with the source.
- Compare playback smoothness between the original and the uploaded rendition.
Likely causes
- Source FPS outside the destination's accepted range
Some destinations expect integer FPS; 29.97 may be re-encoded.
- Source FPS too low for the motion in the scene
24 fps on fast motion looks choppy.
- Destination re-encoded to a lower FPS
Some destinations drop frames for storage; the rendition may be lower FPS than the upload.
Fix it
- Re-export at a documented FPS
Pick the destination's listed FPS; re-export from the original.
