Upload problems
LinkedIn video not uploading? Limits, errors and fixes
Short answer
LinkedIn rejects or fails videos outside its published limits: 75 KB to 5 GB, 3 seconds (2 on mobile) to 15 minutes, 256×144 to 4096×2304 px, aspect ratio 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps and 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps. Two traps catch most people: ProRes files upload but never process, and on iPhone the upload stalls if you leave the app or the video is still in iCloud.
Key takeaways
- LinkedIn's limits: 75 KB to 5 GB, 3 seconds (2 in the app) to 15 minutes, 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304, 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps, 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps (LinkedIn Help).
- ProRes files may upload but will not process.
- On iPhone, stay in the LinkedIn app until the upload finishes; on Android the upload can continue in the background.
- Videos stored in iCloud are not supported for upload in the LinkedIn app; move them to the phone first.
- LinkedIn accepts MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV, WMV and several other formats on desktop, iOS and Android.
Find your case
| What you see | What it usually means | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Uploads but stays "processing" forever | ProRes or another codec LinkedIn can't process | Export H.264 MP4 (step 1) |
| Stalls on iPhone | App went to the background during upload | Stay in the app (step 2) |
| Can't select the video on iPhone | Video stored in iCloud | Download it to the phone first (step 3) |
| Error before upload starts | Outside size, length, resolution or ratio limits | Check the table (step 4) |
| Very high bitrate 4K export fails | Over 30 Mbps or 4096×2304 | Re-export within limits (step 4) |
| Fails only in one browser on desktop | Extension, cache or outdated browser | Browser checks (step 5) |
| Can't post the video to a company Page | Your Page role doesn't allow posting | Ask a Page admin (step 6) |
| Error when selecting the file | Unsupported file type or outside the limits | Export MP4, H.264, inside LinkedIn's limits |
| Over 15 minutes | Above the duration limit | Trim or split the video |
Fix it step by step
Don't upload ProRes
LinkedIn says a ProRes file may upload but will not be able to process. Export H.264 in MP4.
Stay in the app on iPhone
On iOS you need to remain in the LinkedIn app while the video uploads; it can stall in the background. Once processing starts, you can switch apps. Android uploads continue in the background.
Move iCloud videos to the phone
Videos stored in iCloud aren't supported for upload in the LinkedIn app. Download the video to local storage first.
Fit LinkedIn's limits
Check the table below. The most common misses are files over 15 minutes, bitrates above 30 Mbps from camera exports, and extreme aspect ratios.
On desktop, rule out the browser
Update the browser, disable extensions (ad and privacy blockers can interfere with uploads), clear the cache, or try another browser. Signing out and back in clears a stuck session.
Posting as a company Page
Only Page admins and members with a posting role can publish as the Page. If the upload works on your profile but not on the Page, ask an admin to check your role.
LinkedIn video limits (LinkedIn Help)
| File size | 75 KB to 5 GB |
|---|---|
| Duration | 3 s (desktop) or 2 s (mobile) to 15 minutes |
| Resolution | 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304 px |
| Aspect ratio | 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 |
| Frame rate | 10 to 60 fps |

Re-export a video LinkedIn will process
ffmpeg -i in.mov -c:v libx264 -crf 20 -maxrate 20M -bufsize 40M -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 160k -ar 48000 -movflags +faststart out.mp4stays well inside LinkedIn's 30 Mbps maximum.- Keep the frame rate between 10 and 60 fps and the size under 4096 × 2304.

Upload errors in the browser
- Try another browser or a private window to rule out extensions and cached data.
- Sign out and back in.
- Check the file plays on your computer; a file that won't play locally won't process on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn upload checklist
- The file plays on your computer or phone.
- It is MP4, MOV, WebM or another listed type, and not ProRes.
- 75 KB to 5 GB and 3 seconds (2 in the app) to 15 minutes long.
- 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304, aspect ratio 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps, 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps.
- On iPhone the video is on the phone, not only in iCloud, and LinkedIn stays open while it uploads.
- In a browser, extensions are off and the cache is cleared; or try another browser.
Upload from desktop or from the app?
On iPhone, LinkedIn's help says you need to stay in the app while uploading, and videos stored only in iCloud are not supported. On Android the upload continues in the background. On desktop, the minimum length is 3 seconds instead of 2. If one route keeps failing, try the other with the same file.
Check your file
Extension and MIME type are labels, not proof of the container. Dimensions and duration come from this browser's media reader. This does not detect codecs, bitrate, corruption or platform upload compatibility. Files and measurements are not sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
What is LinkedIn's maximum video length?
15 minutes, per LinkedIn's video sharing troubleshooting page.
Why does my LinkedIn video never finish processing?
Often a ProRes file. LinkedIn says ProRes may upload but can't process; export H.264 MP4.
Why can't I upload a video from my iPhone to LinkedIn?
Stay in the app during upload, and download iCloud videos to the phone first; LinkedIn doesn't support uploading from iCloud.
What is LinkedIn's video upload limit?
5 GB and 15 minutes, with a minimum of 75 KB and 3 seconds (2 seconds in the mobile app).
Why is LinkedIn video upload not working?
Check the file is inside LinkedIn's limits and not ProRes, keep the app open on iPhone, and move iCloud videos to the phone. On desktop, try another browser.
Why do I get a LinkedIn video upload error?
The file type is not supported or the file is outside LinkedIn's limits. Re-export as an H.264 MP4 under 5 GB and 15 minutes.
Can I upload a video to a LinkedIn Page?
Yes, if you are an admin of the Page with permission to post. The same file limits apply: up to 5 GB and 15 minutes.
Why does my LinkedIn video say it is processing forever?
ProRes and unusual codecs may upload but never process. Re-export as H.264 MP4 and upload again.
Why can't I upload a video longer than 15 minutes to LinkedIn?
LinkedIn's maximum video duration is 15 minutes. Trim it, split it into parts, or share a link to the full video.
Can I upload a MOV or MKV video to LinkedIn?
Yes. LinkedIn lists MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV and WMV among supported types on desktop, iOS and Android, as long as the file is inside its size and length limits.
