CapCut how-to
How to blur a face in CapCut and make it follow the person
Short answer
Duplicate the clip onto a second track (overlay), add a Blur video effect to one layer, then use a circle Mask over the face so only that area is blurred. On desktop, combine the blurred layer into a compound clip before masking. If the person moves, animate the mask with keyframes or use Track where your version offers it.

Method 1: Desktop
Duplicate the video
Import the video, then copy and paste it onto a second layer.
Add Blur
Open Effects > Video effects, search "blur" and add a blur effect to the first layer.
Make a compound clip
Right-click that layer and choose Create compound clip, so the mask applies to the blurred result.
Mask the face
Select the compound clip, open Video > Mask, choose Circle and fit it over the face. Animate it with keyframes if the face moves.
Method 2: iPhone and Android
Blur the main clip
Select the video, go to Effects, search for a blur effect and apply it; adjust the range.
Overlay the original
Tap Overlay and add the same video again, matching its size to the original.
Mask and invert
Open Mask, choose the circle, tap Invert, and size it over the face. Add keyframes to follow a moving face.
If it doesn't work
| What you see | Fix |
|---|---|
| Whole video is blurred | The mask is on the wrong layer or not inverted; the sharp layer needs the inverted mask. |
| Blur lags behind the face | Add more keyframes, especially where the person turns. |
| Face still recognisable | Raise the blur strength or use a mosaic effect. |
