✳ GLOSSARY
What is alpha channel?
The transparency information stored in an image or video, alongside its red, green and blue color data.
An alpha channel lets part of an image be fully or partially see-through, which is how a logo or overlay can sit on top of a video without a visible rectangle around it. PNG and WebP support alpha; JPEG does not.
Video alpha channels are rarer and need a specific codec/container combination (like ProRes 4444 or certain WebM configurations) - the MP4/H.264 combination most platforms expect does not carry transparency.
Koldflux picks the right codec, container and bitrate for every platform automatically - this glossary exists because our own team had to get it right first.
