Spotify Artist Header Image Size: 2660 x 1140 px Minimum
Short answer
Spotify for Artists says a header image must be at least 2660 × 1140 px, in JPEG, PNG or GIF, no larger than 20 MB, with no text, advertising or busy backgrounds. That frame is exactly 7:3, wider than any phone photo.
Key takeaways
- Spotify states the header as a minimum, 2660 × 1140 px. The two Spotify pages we read on 2026-10-09 give no recommended size, no crop and no safe area, so nothing beyond the minimum is a Spotify rule.
- The frame is exactly 7:3 (2660 / 1140 = 2.333). A 16:9 photo loses about 24% of its height when it is scaled to cover that frame, and a 4:3 phone photo loses about 43%.
- Spotify says the header appears at the top of your artist profile on the desktop app and web player, and in the Now Playing View on smart TVs. With no header, it shows your avatar in both places.
- Spotify tells artists not to include text, advertising or busy backgrounds, or to promote an upcoming tour or album release, and says images can be removed for violating the guidelines.
- You cannot update the header from a mobile web browser or the Spotify for Artists mobile app; use the website on a computer.

What Spotify publishes
The Artist image guidelines page lists the rules for every image on an artist profile in one short list. The header line reads "Header images must be at least 2660px x 1140px", and the file rules sit above it: the formats are .jpeg, .png and .gif, and an image cannot be larger than 20 MB.
The managing-images page adds where each image appears and how to change it. That is the page to read before choosing a design, because it tells you the header is a desktop and TV image rather than a phone one.
| Image | Published minimum | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Header | 2660 × 1140 px | Top of the artist profile on the desktop app and web player; Now Playing View on smart TVs |
| Avatar | 750 × 750 px | Top of the artist profile on the mobile app; search results next to your artist name |
| Image gallery | 690 × 500 px | The About section of the artist profile |
| All images | JPEG, PNG or GIF, 20 MB at most | Not applicable |
If you upload no gallery photos, Spotify shows your avatar in the About section. The gallery can hold up to 125 images, and you can reorder it.
Why the 7:3 shape crops almost every photo
Dividing the minimum, 2660 by 1140 gives 2.333, which is exactly 7:3. Almost no camera produces that shape. A phone photo at 4:3 is 1.333, a camera at 3:2 is 1.5 and a widescreen frame at 16:9 is 1.778, so each has to be cut down to a wide strip.
The crop table further up this page is computed from those shapes. Spotify does not say which part of an uploaded image it keeps, so the table assumes a center crop. If you export the file yourself at the exact size, you choose the strip and nothing is left to the site.
Where the header is seen
The managing-images page names two places: the profile on the desktop app and web player, and the Now Playing View on smart TVs. It names no phone placement for the header, which fits its other line that the header cannot be updated from the mobile app.
The two Spotify pages we read on 2026-10-09 give no safe area for the header and say nothing about how a TV crops it. As a cautious default of our own, not a Spotify rule, keep the subject inside the middle third of the width, which is 887 px of the 2660 px frame (2660 / 3 = 886.7).
The rules that get a header removed
The guidelines page lists what to leave out. A header that fails one of these can be taken down, and Spotify says so directly: images can be removed if they violate the image guidelines, the copyright policy, the terms and conditions, or the Spotify Platform Rules.
- No text, advertising or busy backgrounds. A header with your artist name typeset across it breaks the text rule.
- No promotion of an upcoming tour or album release.
- No infringing or offensive material.
- Nothing that violates copyright, trademark or personal image rights; you cannot post an image of a person without their consent.
File weight is not the problem
Uncompressed 24-bit RGB at 2660 × 1140 px is 9,097,200 bytes (2,660 × 1,140 × 3), about 8.7 MiB. A normal JPEG or PNG export of that frame sits below the 20 MB cap, so file size rarely decides anything here. The limit that matters is the pixel minimum: a smaller image is below the published floor.
