Spotify Artist Profile Picture Size: 750 x 750 px Minimum
Short answer
Spotify for Artists requires an avatar of at least 750 × 750 px, in JPEG, PNG or GIF, no larger than 20 MB. It shows at the top of your artist profile on the mobile app and next to your name in search results.
Key takeaways
- The published minimum is 750 × 750 px, a square. The Spotify pages we read give no recommended size.
- The avatar appears in two places: the top of the artist profile on the mobile app, and search results next to your artist name. If you upload none, Spotify uses your most recent release artwork in both.
- You cannot remove the avatar completely, and the search image can take up to 72 hours to update.
- Spotify does not say whether the avatar is shown as a square or a circle, so keep the subject centered and away from the corners as a precaution.
- The same 20 MB cap and the same no text, no advertising, no busy backgrounds rule apply as for the header.

What Spotify publishes
The Artist image guidelines page says avatar images must be at least 750px x 750px, and sets the same file rules as every other artist image: .jpeg, .png or .gif, and no larger than 20 MB. The managing-images page lists where the avatar appears and how to replace it.
| Question | What Spotify says |
|---|---|
| Minimum size | 750 × 750 px |
| File types and size | JPEG, PNG or GIF, at most 20 MB |
| Where it shows | Top of the artist profile on the mobile app; search results next to your artist name |
| If you have none | Your most recent release artwork is shown instead |
| Removing it | You cannot remove the avatar completely |
| Update delay | The search image can take up to 72 hours to update |
Why 750 px is only a floor
A square of 750 × 750 px is 562,500 pixels. The pages we read do not give the size at which Spotify draws the avatar, so there is no way to say how much headroom 750 px leaves. If your source image is larger, upload it at the larger size: the guidelines set a minimum and a 20 MB cap, and nothing in between.
Uncompressed 24-bit RGB at 750 × 750 px is 1,687,500 bytes (750 × 750 × 3), so a 20 MB cap is not a constraint for any ordinary export.
When the new avatar does not show
Spotify says your search image can take up to 72 hours to update. If it still has not changed, its advice is to restart the Spotify app a few times, because it may be a caching issue.
The update itself has a limit too. The managing-images page says you cannot update the avatar on a mobile web browser and should use the Spotify for Artists mobile app instead, or the website on a computer.
Avatar, header and gallery together
The three images have separate minimums, and each has its own page of detail. If you are setting up a profile, work through them in this order: avatar, then header, then gallery.
| Image | Minimum | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| Avatar | 750 × 750 px | 1:1 |
| Header | 2660 × 1140 px | 7:3 |
| Gallery image | 690 × 500 px | 1.38:1 (690 / 500) |
