How to reduce video file size without losing (much) quality
Lossy re-encoding can reduce file size but cannot promise unchanged quality. Compare a short sample at your intended viewing size, keeping dimensions where useful. Choose a smaller preset only if the loss of detail is acceptable.

Downscaling is a tradeoff to test on a copy, not a universally better way to compress. Keep the original and compare at the intended viewing size.
