Workflow
Publish an animated GIF as a video post
Short answer
Most platforms will not take a .gif through the video uploader. Converting to MP4 also makes the file dramatically smaller, since GIF is a remarkably inefficient way to store motion.
The decision that matters: A GIF has no audio track. Some uploaders reject silent video outright, so the question is whether the destination needs an audio track at all.
Step by step
Check what you actually have
Read the dimensions, ratio, duration and size off the file before deciding anything. Most bad exports come from assuming the source rather than looking at it.
Convert the animation to MP4
The conversion preserves the animation and usually shrinks the file by an order of magnitude.
Check the duration against the destination
GIF loops are often two or three seconds - below the minimum duration some platforms require.
Limits to know
- The result is silent. Adding audio needs an editor; Koldflux does not currently attach an audio track to a video.
- GIF colour is limited to 256 shades, and converting cannot restore what the GIF already discarded.
Run the whole workflow in one place
Koldflux takes one source through checking, reframing, captions and export, and gives you a pack per platform.
