Premiere Pro how-to
How to flip a video in Premiere Pro (mirror horizontally)
Short answer
Apply the Horizontal Flip effect (Effects > Video Effects > Transform > Horizontal Flip) to mirror the clip left to right; the video still plays forward. Vertical Flip turns it upside down. Check for mirrored text, logos and watches before you export, and use Motion > Rotation instead if you want to turn the clip, not mirror it.

Method 1: Flip effects
Find the effect
In the Effects panel, search for "flip" or open Video Effects > Transform.
EffectsVideo EffectsTransform
Apply it
Drag Horizontal Flip (mirror left to right) or Vertical Flip (upside down) onto the clip. Adobe notes the clip still plays forward.
Flip several clips
Apply the effect to an adjustment layer above them, or select the clips and drag the effect onto the selection.
Method 2: Animated flip
Use Transform or Scale Width
Vertical Flip can't be keyframed. For a flip you can animate, apply the Transform effect, untick Uniform Scale and keyframe Scale Width from 100 to -100.

Flip, rotate or mirror: which effect
| You want | Use | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Mirror image (left becomes right) | Horizontal Flip | Video Effects > Transform |
| Upside down without swapping left and right | Vertical Flip | Video Effects > Transform |
| Turned upside down (like turning the camera) | Rotation 180 | Effect Controls > Motion |
| Animated flip | Transform effect, Scale Width 100 to -100 | Video Effects > Distort > Transform |
| Kaleidoscope or half-mirror look | Mirror effect | Video Effects > Distort |
If it doesn't work
| What you see | Fix |
|---|---|
| Text and logos read backwards | Expected with a horizontal flip. Mask or blur them, or flip only the shots without writing. |
| The clip turned instead of mirroring | That is Rotation. Remove it and use Horizontal Flip. |
| Selfie video is mirrored | Front cameras often record mirrored. Horizontal Flip puts it back the right way round. |
Questions people ask
How do I mirror a video in Premiere Pro?
Apply Video Effects > Transform > Horizontal Flip to the clip.
Is flipping the same as rotating 180°?
No. Rotating 180° turns the picture upside down and reverses it left to right; Vertical Flip only turns it upside down, as in a mirror on the floor.
Can I keyframe a flip?
Not the Vertical Flip effect; Adobe says it can't be keyframed. Animate Transform's Scale Width instead.
