CapCut how-to
How to freeze frame in CapCut (pause a moment)
Short answer
Move the playhead to the frame you want to hold, select the clip and tap Freeze: on mobile it's in the clip's Edit toolbar, on desktop it's the Freeze button above the timeline. CapCut inserts a still segment (3 seconds by default) at that point; drag its edges to change how long it holds.
Checked against: CapCut mobile (iOS, Android), desktop (Windows, Mac) and web, October 2026. Button names match CapCut's guides and the top independent guides; layouts move between builds.
Method 1: Mobile app
Pick the frame
Scrub the timeline and stop exactly on the frame to hold; a sharp frame works best.
Tap Freeze
Tap the clip, scroll the bottom toolbar and tap Freeze.
Set the length
Drag the still segment's edges to the hold length you want.
Method 2: Desktop
Select and freeze
Select the clip, place the playhead, and click Freeze in the toolbar above the timeline. If it's greyed out, the clip isn't selected.
If it doesn't work
| What you see | Fix |
|---|---|
| Freeze button greyed out | Select the clip on the timeline first. |
| Frozen frame is blurry | Motion blur in that frame; move one or two frames to a sharper one. |
| Music stops during the freeze | Freeze holds the video only; put music on its own track so it keeps playing. |
