How to do slow motion in CapCut (smooth, not choppy)

Updated 5 steps2 min read

Short answer

Select the clip, open Speed and choose Normal, then drag the slider below 1x (0.5x is half speed). Use Curve for ramps that slow down and speed back up. For smooth slow motion, shoot at 60 fps or higher; otherwise turn on CapCut's smooth slow-mo option, which creates in-between frames.

Checked against: CapCut mobile (iOS, Android), desktop (Windows, Mac) and web, October 2026. Button names match CapCut's guides and the top independent guides; layouts move between builds.

Method 1: Mobile app

  1. Select the clip

Tap the clip on the timeline.

  2. Open Speed

Tap Speed in the bottom toolbar, then Normal for one rate or Curve for a ramp.

  3. Set the speed

Drag the slider below 1x. Turn on smooth slow-mo if the motion stutters, and pitch protection if voices sound low.

Method 2: Desktop

  1. Open the Speed tab

Select the clip and click the Speed tab in the panel on the right.

  2. Normal or Curve

Set a single speed under Normal, or pick a preset or Custom under Curve for a ramp.
