CapCut how-to

How to zoom in on CapCut (smooth zoom, auto zoom, effects)

Updated 5 steps2 min read

Short answer

For a controlled zoom, move the playhead to where the zoom starts and add a keyframe, then move it to where the zoom ends, add a second keyframe and pinch outward on the preview (or raise Scale on desktop). CapCut animates between them. For a one-tap zoom, use Effects and search "zoom" (for example Zoom Lens or Optical Zoom), or apply a Zoom In animation to the clip.

Method 1: Keyframe zoom (mobile)

  1. Add the first keyframe

Select the clip, move the playhead to the start of the zoom and tap the keyframe (diamond) button above the timeline.

  2. Zoom at the end point

Move the playhead to where the zoom should end, tap the keyframe button again and pinch outward on the preview to zoom into the area you want.

  3. Zoom back out (optional)

Add two more keyframes further along and pinch back to the original size. The distance between keyframes sets the zoom speed.

Method 2: Zoom effect (desktop)

  1. Find a zoom effect

Click Effects, search "Zoom" and drag an effect such as Optical Zoom or Zoom Lens onto the clip at the playhead.

  2. Adjust it

Select the effect on the timeline and set its strength and speed in the right panel; drag its edges to set how long it lasts.

Questions people ask

How do I do a slow zoom in CapCut?

Use two keyframes far apart and zoom only 10 to 15% between them.

Is there a one-tap zoom in CapCut?

Yes. Zoom effects (search "zoom" in Effects) and Zoom In animations under Animation add a zoom without keyframes.

Keyframes or effect: which is better?

Keyframes give exact control over where and how far you zoom. Effects are faster and add motion blur or a punchy style.

CapCut moves buttons between app updates and regions. Where CapCut's own help doesn't spell out a step, the button names follow what several current top-ranking guides agree on. The sharpness limits are general resolution arithmetic, not CapCut figures.
