Instagram Reels how-to

How to make an Instagram Reel with photos (and music)

Updated 6 steps2 min read

Short answer

Tap + and choose Reel, then tap the camera roll and select several photos. Instagram turns each photo into a short clip in your reel. Tap Edit video to set how long each photo shows, add music from the audio library (lining photos up with the beat), add text, and share. Photos look best as 1080 × 1920 portrait images, because a reel can be between 1.91:1 and 9:16 and fills a phone screen at 9:16.

  3. Set the timing

  4. Add music

Tap the music icon, search a song and pick the part you want; lining cuts up with the beat makes photo reels feel faster.
