CapCut export has no sound? Check muted tracks, clips and music

Updated 6 fixes2 sources

Short answer

A CapCut export without sound usually means the sound was off inside the project: the track's mute button, a clip's volume at 0, or the original sound of a video clip turned off. Less often, a song from CapCut's library is limited, or the file plays silently only in one player. Check the project before re-exporting, then confirm the exported file in a second player.

Key takeaways

  • No sound after export usually means the sound was off inside the project: a muted track, a clip at volume 0, or a clip's original sound turned off.
  • Check the export in a second player before re-editing; some players cannot play certain audio.
  • Music from CapCut's library may not be available everywhere or for every use; replace it if it goes missing.
  • If the export has sound but the post does not, the platform muted the music for rights reasons.
  • Re-encode the audio to AAC stereo if a file plays silently in some apps.

Fix it step by step

  1. Unmute the timeline

On mobile, the speaker icon at the left of the timeline mutes all original clip audio. On desktop, each track has a mute toggle. Turn them back on and play the timeline.

  2. Check the silent clip

Select the clip and check Volume; restore it to 100%. If you used Extract audio, make sure the extracted track wasn't deleted.

  3. Swap limited music

Some library tracks can't be used in every context, for example commercial use. Replace the track with another from CapCut's library or with audio you own.

  4. Confirm in a second player

Play the export in VLC or your phone's gallery. If it has sound there, the problem is the player you used.

  5. If it goes silent after posting

Platforms mute music they can't license for your post. That is fixed on the platform, not in CapCut.

  6. If exporting itself fails

Free storage, close other apps, update CapCut and export again; CapCut lists these as its first fixes for export problems.

Fix a silent CapCut export

  1. On the timeline, check the mute icon at the start of each audio and video track.
  2. Tap each video clip → Volume, and make sure Original sound is on and above 0.
  3. Play the project once from the start in the editor; if it is silent there, the export will be too.
  4. Export again, then play the file in a second player.
  5. If it plays in some apps but not others, re-encode the audio: ffmpeg -i in.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a aac -b:a 160k -ac 2 out.mp4
