LinkedIn personal banner size
Short answer
LinkedIn recommends 1584 x 396 px, in JPG or PNG, under 8 MB. That is 4:1 exactly, and because one image serves every device, the part you can rely on is the middle 396 px square rather than the whole strip.
Key takeaways
- 1584 x 396 px is the recommendation, and 1584 / 396 = 4.00 exactly.
- JPG or PNG, under 8 MB. LinkedIn Help states the cover image appears behind your profile photo in the introduction section.
- The middle 396 px square is the region that survives on every viewport. That is 25% of the canvas width.
- LinkedIn tells you to use limited text, because how the cover appears depends on the viewer's browser window and screen resolution.
- A company Page cover is a different asset at 1512 x 256 px, given as both the minimum and the recommended size.

1584 x 396 px is the frame LinkedIn states. The tool center-crops into it, so a photo taken at 4:3 loses its top and bottom; a photo taken at 16:9 is cut only on the sides.
Batch is unlimited and free - every image is processed on your device, so there is no queue and no daily cap.
The published specification
LinkedIn's cover image Help article gives 1584 (w) x 396 (h) pixels as recommended, JPG or PNG, less than 8 MB. It also notes that the cover image appears behind your profile photo in the introduction section, which matters for layout: the photo sits on top of your cover, not beside it.
The article adds two pieces of advice rather than numbers. It says photos look better than images made of logos, and it says to use limited text. Both are about the same problem: the cover is cropped to the reader's window, and LinkedIn does not control that.
Why the middle 396 px is the safe region, and nothing wider is
One cover serves every screen, and it keeps its 4:1 ratio while scaling to the width of whatever is showing it. The visible height is therefore the viewport width divided by four, and everything above and below that height is cropped away.
Computed across real device widths: a 1440 px desktop shows the full 1584 px canvas scaled up, a 768 px tablet shows 768 px of the 1584 and crops 102 px off the top and bottom, and a 390 px phone shows 390 px and crops 149 px off each side, leaving 98 px of the 396.
Intersecting those three gives the middle 396 px square: 396 px wide, the full height, centered. That is 25% of the canvas width. Nothing outside it is guaranteed to be seen by everyone.
There is a second, less obvious constraint. The profile photo overlaps the cover in the introduction section, and the LinkedIn pages we read on 2026-10-07 do not say where it sits or how large it is. That is why the left end of a cover is a bad place for anything important regardless of viewport: even a desktop viewer may have their photo over it.
Laying out the cover
- Put the photo or the product in the middle 396 px square. That block survives every viewport in the table above.
- Treat the outer 594 px on each side as bleed. Extend the background into it, but put nothing readable there.
- Keep type clear of the top and bottom 150 px, which is what a phone crops first.
- Use a photograph rather than a flat logo if you want it to look sharp at strip width. LinkedIn says so directly.
- Publish, then check the preview on your own phone. LinkedIn's crop tool shows what it will do, but only for your own viewport.
Personal cover against company Page cover
A company Page cover is a separate asset with a separate number, and it is easier to get wrong because the two are often assumed to be the same. LinkedIn's Page and Career Page specifications give 1512 x 256 px for a Page cover image, as both the minimum and the recommended size, in PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB.
That is 5.9:1 against the personal cover's 4:1, and the file limit is 3 MB against 8 MB. The same article warns that a Page cover may be adjusted to fit the screen, which might trim it horizontally or vertically, and recommends keeping key details away from the edges, naming the lower-right corner specifically.
| Asset | Size | Ratio | File limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal profile cover | 1584 x 396 px | 4:1 | 8 MB, JPG or PNG |
| Company Page cover | 1512 x 256 px | 5.9:1 | 3 MB, PNG or JPEG |
| Career Page main image | 1128 x 376 px | 3:1 | 3 MB, PNG or JPEG |

What LinkedIn says to do when a cover looks wrong
The Help article addresses it directly: if the cover appears blurry or pixelated, choose an image with a larger file size. It also says photos look better than images made of logos, and that if the image is still blurry or pixelated you could use a compression tool such as Trimage for Windows or ImageOptim for Mac before uploading.
The ordering is worth noting. LinkedIn says compress before uploading rather than upload raw. Its note that it does not support third-party tools is a disclaimer about endorsement, not a prohibition.
Frequently asked questions
What is the LinkedIn banner size?
1584 x 396 px, exactly 4:1, in JPG or PNG under 8 MB. That is the figure LinkedIn recommends in its cover image Help article.
Why does my LinkedIn banner look cut off on mobile?
One cover serves every screen at a fixed 4:1 ratio, so the visible height is the viewport width divided by four. A 390 px phone sees about 98 px of the 396 px height and loses 300 px. Keep anything readable inside the middle 396 px square.
Is 1584 x 396 still the right size?
It is the size LinkedIn currently states. The Help article was last updated seven months before we checked it on 2026-10-07 and still gives 1584 x 396 px.
What size is a LinkedIn company page cover?
1512 x 256 px, given as both the minimum and the recommended size, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB. That is 5.9:1, wider than the 4:1 personal cover, with a smaller file limit.
Does the LinkedIn cover overlap my profile photo?
Yes. LinkedIn states the cover image appears behind your profile photo in the introduction section. The article we read on 2026-10-07 does not say where the photo sits or how large it is, so treat the left part of the cover as covered regardless of viewport.
How do I stop my LinkedIn banner text getting cut?
Design at 1584 x 396, keep anything readable inside the middle 396 x 396 px square, and treat the rest as background bleed. Then check the preview on a phone before publishing, because the crop follows the viewer's window.
