LinkedIn Event Cover Image Size: 16:9, 480 px Minimum Width
Short answer
LinkedIn says an event cover must be 16:9 with a minimum width of 480 px, and names 480 × 270 px and 1280 × 720 px as example sizes. The image has to come from your device, because cloud storage uploads are not supported.
Key takeaways
- The rules are a ratio and a width: 16:9, and at least 480 px wide. At 16:9 a 480 px wide cover is 270 px tall (480 / 16 × 9).
- LinkedIn names two sizes, 480 × 270 px and 1280 × 720 px. We use 1280 × 720 px, the larger one, which is 2.67 times the minimum width.
- Uploading from cloud storage is not supported; save the file to your device first.
- Add alt text after the upload. LinkedIn says it is read by screen readers and is not visible to other members.
- LinkedIn gives no maximum file size for the event cover on the page we read.

What LinkedIn publishes
The Create a LinkedIn Event page covers the whole event form, and the cover image is one row of it. It says you can use different banner sizes including 480x270 or 1280x720 pixels, that the minimum width is 480 pixels and that the aspect ratio must be 16:9.
| What | Published value |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 16:9, required |
| Minimum width | 480 px |
| Example sizes | 480 × 270 px and 1280 × 720 px |
| Upload source | From your device; images stored in the cloud are not supported |
| Alt text | Add it after uploading; screen readers read it, other members do not see it |
Why the two example sizes look different but are the same shape
Both example sizes are 16:9: 480 / 270 = 1.778 and 1280 / 720 = 1.778. The only difference is resolution. The smaller one is the least LinkedIn accepts by its own rule, and the larger has 2.67 times as many pixels per side (1280 / 480).
That is the practical case for uploading 1280 × 720 px: the same shape, with room to stay sharp on a larger screen. LinkedIn does not say at what size the cover is drawn, so we cannot say how much larger is useful.
The cloud upload catch
LinkedIn notes that you can upload an image from your device, but that uploading images stored in the cloud is not supported. If you design the cover in a web tool, export it to your computer or phone first and pick it from there.
Cover for the event, not the page
An event cover is a different image from a personal banner or a Page logo. If you are setting up the surrounding profile as well, these pages cover the other LinkedIn images.
