LinkedIn Carousel Size: 1080 x 1080 px Ads, PDF Posts
Short answer
For a LinkedIn carousel ad, LinkedIn recommends 1080 × 1080 px at 1:1 per card, with two to ten cards of at most 10 MB. An organic carousel is a document post, up to 100 MB and 300 pages, and the LinkedIn pages we read give no page dimensions for it.
Key takeaways
- There are two things people call a LinkedIn carousel. A carousel ad is a set of image cards. An organic carousel is a document, usually a PDF, uploaded to a post.
- Carousel ads: 1080 × 1080 px at 1:1 is the recommended card, 2 to 10 cards, JPG, PNG or non-animated GIF, at most 10 MB and 4320 × 4320 px per card. LinkedIn says images are scaled to 312 × 312 px.
- Document posts: PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC or DOCX, at most 100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn states no page size, so any slide size is a design choice, not a rule.
- After a document is posted you can edit its description or remove the post, but you cannot change the document itself.
- 1080 to 312 px is a 71% reduction in each direction: the card is shown at 8.3% of the area you designed, so a 30 px line of text in your design is 8.7 px on screen.

Carousel ads: what LinkedIn publishes
The Carousel Ads advertising specifications page lists the rules for each card. It says to use a minimum of two cards and a maximum of ten, that each card has a maximum file size of 10 MB and a maximum image dimension of 4320 × 4320 pixels, and that the recommended individual image is 1080 × 1080 px at a 1:1 aspect ratio. It adds that images will be scaled to 312 × 312 px.
| What | Published value |
|---|---|
| Recommended card | 1080 × 1080 px, 1:1 |
| Number of cards | 2 to 10 |
| File types | JPG, PNG, GIF (non-animated only) |
| File size per card | 10 MB |
| Largest dimension | 4320 × 4320 px |
| Displayed at | Scaled to 312 × 312 px |
| Headline | Two lines before it is truncated |
| After saving | You cannot edit the carousel cards once the ad is saved |
The 312 px display, computed
LinkedIn scales a 1080 px card down to 312 px. That is a factor of 0.289 (312 / 1080), so a line of text that is 30 px tall in your design is 8.7 px tall as shown. The displayed card has 97,344 pixels against 1,166,400 in the source, 8.3% of them.
Check legibility at 312 px before you export: shrink the design to that size and read it. The 4320 px maximum is 4 times the recommended side and is 18,662,400 pixels, about 18.7 megapixels, well under the 36 megapixel image limit LinkedIn lists for posts.
Organic carousels are documents
LinkedIn's document page says you can upload a document to a post from your homepage, a Group or a LinkedIn Page, that the file cannot exceed 100 MB and 300 pages, and that PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF are supported. The media types page adds a word count limit of one million words.
The pages we read give no page size or ratio for a document. Anyone who tells you LinkedIn requires 1080 × 1350 px for a PDF carousel is quoting a design habit, not a LinkedIn rule. If you want a recommendation of ours, use the one size the ad spec gives, 1080 × 1080 px, so the same slides can serve both.
Two behaviors matter for planning. Members who can view your post can download the document as a PDF for accessibility, and you cannot change the document after posting. You can edit the description or remove the post.
