Measured from the platform's own overlay, or labeled as a guide
TikTok safe zone
Short answer
TikTok publishes two official safe-zone overlays for the 9:16 In-Feed. Koldflux measured the Standard one: 12.5% of the top, 34.375% of the bottom and 11.111% of each side, which at 1080 x 1920 px is 240 / 660 / 120 px. A right-hand button column is excluded as well as the four edges.
Key takeaways
- Two surfaces, two different answers. The Standard In-Feed and the In-Feed with Anchor have different bottom margins, because the anchor panel grows with the caption.
- The Standard frame is 12.5% top, 34.375% bottom, 11.111% each side. Measured from TikTok's own overlay PNG, not from a summary of it.
- There is a fifth region: a 120 px column on the right that TikTok's diagram shades. It sits from 43.75% to 65.63% down the frame.
- The four caption-length variants of the anchor overlay move the bottom margin from 42.3% to 52.8%. Design for the longest.
- These are ad figures. TikTok's own caveat on the file says organic posts can differ, and Koldflux keeps that caveat on the page.
The overlay
TikTok has two In-Feed overlays and no Stories overlay. Drag between the three below; the Story card is listed so you can see that it has nothing to draw.

On a 1080×1920 frame, leave the top 240 px, the bottom 660 px, the left 120 px and the right 120 px free of text and faces. The shaded button area inside the safe area is covered as well.

Surfaces on this platform
Three surfaces, and they are not interchangeable. The Standard and Anchor In-Feed overlays are TikTok's own files; the Story row is a gap, not an omission.

Nothing is drawn for this surface. The pages Koldflux reached on 2026-10-03 gave no geometry for it, and an overlay invented from a neighbouring surface would be a guess dressed as a specification.

What TikTok published, and what Koldflux measured from it
TikTok's Auction In-Feed Ads help page links two sets of safe-zone PNGs: an "In-Feed Standard Version" and four "In-Feed with Anchor Standard Version" files, one per caption length. Both are official overlays on an official domain.
Koldflux measured the Standard file rather than quoting a summary of it. The transparent region on TikTok's own artwork is x 320 to 2559 and y 640 to 3359 of a 2880 x 5120 canvas, which on a 1080 x 1920 frame is 240 px top, 660 px bottom and 120 px each side. The printed labels on the diagram agree at its own 4x scale.
The percentages on this page are those measurements expressed as a share of each axis, which is what lets the same file serve a 720 x 1280 design and a 1080 x 1920 one.
The Standard frame against the Anchor frame
The Standard In-Feed has no anchor, so its bottom margin is fixed at 34.375%. The anchor variant reserves room for the caption panel that slides up over the bottom of the video, so its bottom margin starts at 42.3% for a one-line caption and reaches 52.8% for four lines.
The top and the sides are close between them: 12.5% against 13.125% at the top, and 11.111% on both sides. Only the bottom moves.
| Surface | Top | Bottom | Left | Right |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| In-Feed Standard | 12.5% (240 px) | 34.375% (660 px) | 11.111% (120 px) | 11.111% (120 px) |
| In-Feed with Anchor, 1 line | 13.125% (252 px) | 42.292% (812 px) | 11.111% (120 px) | 11.111% (120 px) |
| In-Feed with Anchor, 2 lines | 13.125% (252 px) | 45.729% (878 px) | 11.111% (120 px) | 11.111% (120 px) |
| In-Feed with Anchor, 3 lines | 13.125% (252 px) | 49.271% (946 px) | 11.111% (120 px) | 11.111% (120 px) |
| In-Feed with Anchor, 4 lines | 13.125% (252 px) | 52.813% (1014 px) | 11.111% (120 px) | 11.111% (120 px) |
Computed from the two official TikTok overlays at 1080 x 1920 px.
The overlay download for the anchor surface uses the four-line figure, because that is the only one of the four that is safe for every caption length.
The right-hand button column
TikTok's diagram shades a fifth region that is not an edge: a vertical column on the right where the action buttons sit. On the measured Standard file it spans x 72.222% to 88.889% and y 43.75% to 65.625%, which at 1080 x 1920 px is a 180 px column running from 840 px to 1260 px down.
That is why a caption placed mid-right on a TikTok video can disappear even when it is nowhere near the traditional bottom third. The safe area on this page is the intersection of the four edges and this column, which is why the safe rectangle on the overlay is narrower on the right below the halfway mark.
The overlay draws the column hatched so it is visible rather than implied. It is the one region on this page that no percentage-only guide mentions.
TikTok Stories: what is not documented
TikTok Stories have a separate interface from the In-Feed and their own set of overlays, and Koldflux could not find one. Every TikTok help article fetched on 2026-10-07 returned either a navigation shell or no safe-zone geometry for Stories.
There is therefore no TikTok Stories overlay on this page and no download for it, which is a deliberate choice rather than an omission. The In-Feed geometry does not transfer: the Stories interface is full-screen with its own chrome, and applying In-Feed margins to it wastes the top of the frame for nothing.
- Start from the In-Feed frame as a working reference and treat it as an upper bound on how much to reserve, not as the answer.
- Keep the top 10% and the bottom 30% clear while you are testing, which is the margin other guides report for Stories without attributing it to TikTok.
- Check on the device you post from. Stories chrome moves between app versions in a way the In-Feed does not.
- Re-check a few weeks later if a campaign depends on it; an interface change is the most likely thing to invalidate the estimate.

How to use the overlay on your own video
- Download the overlay and drop it under your 1080 x 1920 timeline in your editor at the same size. Anything outside it is at risk, by TikTok's own published figures.
- Put the subject in the top two thirds. The bottom third is caption territory on the anchor variant, where the panel covers 42% to 53% of the height.
- Keep interactive elements, on-screen text and logos out of the right-hand column below the midpoint.
- If you post organically, treat this as a cautious guide. TikTok published it for ads and its own file notes organic can differ.

Frequently asked questions
What is the TikTok safe zone?
For the 9:16 In-Feed, Koldflux measured 12.5% of the top, 34.375% of the bottom and 11.111% of each side from TikTok's own safe-zone PNG, which is 240 / 660 / 120 px at 1080 x 1920. TikTok's In-Feed with Anchor overlay adds a larger bottom margin that grows with the caption length.
Does TikTok have a different safe zone for ads with a caption anchor?
Yes, and it is the surface most people get wrong. TikTok publishes four anchor variants, one per caption line, with the bottom margin running from 42.3% to 52.8%. This page shows all four and the download uses the four-line figure.
Is there a safe zone on the right side of a TikTok video?
TikTok's own diagram shades a right-hand column, and Koldflux measured it at x 72.2% to 88.9% and y 43.75% to 65.625% of the frame. It is where the action buttons sit, and most percentage-only guides do not mention it.
Do TikTok safe zones apply to organic posts?
The overlays TikTok publishes are for In-Feed ads, and Koldflux's truth table carries TikTok's own note that organic posts can differ. Use the ad geometry as a cautious working guide and check on device before committing a campaign to it.
Why is there no TikTok Stories safe zone here?
Every TikTok help page fetched on 2026-10-07 returned no Stories overlay geometry, so there is nothing to quote and Koldflux does not invent one. The In-Feed frame is a reasonable upper bound while you test, but Stories chrome moves independently of it.

TikTok publishes the two In-Feed overlays as PNGs on an official domain and states no numbers in the page body, so every figure here comes from measuring those files. The Story row is the exception: no Story overlay was found, and that is recorded rather than filled in.
